Harbor Freight Tools, a prominent retailer of tools and equipment, has announced plans to expand its presence in South Carolina with a new operation in Anderson County. The expansion involves a $30 million investment and is expected to create 36 new jobs.

The company, founded in 1977, offers value-priced tools including hand, power, automotive, and industrial tools. Harbor Freight Tools established its first South Carolina operation in Dillon County in 2002.

The new facility will be located at 130 Frontage Road in Piedmont and will cover 76,171 square feet. It will include office space, research and development labs, as well as a warehouse for designing, developing, and testing tools. Operations are projected to begin by late 2025.

Governor Henry McMaster expressed support for the project stating: “Today’s announcement strengthens our well-established partnership with Harbor Freight Tools. The company’s decision to invest and create 36 jobs in Anderson County is a major vote of confidence in South Carolina.”

Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III added: “We are thrilled Harbor Freight Tools decided to continue doing business in South Carolina by establishing a new research and development facility in Anderson County.”

Anderson County Councilman Jimmy Davis also welcomed the investment: “We are pleased that Harbor Freight has chosen to grow their company in Anderson County. The announcement of $30 million in capital investment and 36 new jobs will offer an opportunity for a brighter future for many in our area.”

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project.
