State AGs urge Senate to confirm Pam Bondi as U.S. Attorney General

Attorney General Alan Wilson of South Carolina, along with a coalition of 30 current and future state attorneys general, has called on the United States Senate to confirm Pam Bondi as the next United States Attorney General.

Wilson expressed his support for Bondi, stating, “I could not be more thrilled by President Donald Trump’s appointment of my dear friend Pam Bondi.” He emphasized her ability to restore public confidence in the Department of Justice and described her as a strong ally for law enforcement at all levels.

The coalition sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Minority Whip John Thune. The letter highlighted Bondi's legal expertise and commitment to justice. It stated, “Many of us have worked with Attorney General Bondi, and we have witnessed firsthand her legal acumen, her passion for justice, and her steadfast commitment to the rule of law.”

Bondi's achievements as Florida Attorney General were noted in the letter. During the opioid crisis, she worked with the Florida Legislature to combat pill mills and held accountable those responsible for drug abuse. She also advocated against human trafficking by enhancing prosecutorial tools.

The coalition believes that Bondi is well-prepared for the role of U.S. Attorney General due to her experience in both civil and criminal matters. They wrote that she would bring "a unique combination" of skills along with a strong work ethic.

Attorneys general from states including Alabama, Arkansas, Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma Pennsylvania South Dakota Tennessee Texas Utah Virginia West Virginia Wyoming joined Wilson and Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody in supporting Bondi's confirmation.
