U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina attended a briefing in Aiken with state and local officials at the Aiken County Emergency Management Center regarding Hurricane Helene. After the meeting, he spoke with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Dominion Energy.
Senator Graham reported, "I just spoke to a FEMA representative. They assured me that FEMA representatives would be coming to Aiken County and the Savannah River area no later than tomorrow to ensure their needs are met." He emphasized the importance of FEMA hearing directly from local officials due to the devastation experienced by the county.
Additionally, Graham mentioned his conversation with a Dominion Energy representative, stating, "He indicated that there will be a surge of linemen and power assistance coming to Aiken County and the Savannah River area beginning tomorrow."
Graham highlighted the severity of the impact on this region: "I stressed how terribly this part of the state has been hit and they agreed it was historic devastation." He acknowledged that crews from other parts of South Carolina are en route to assist.
The senator expressed gratitude for the prompt response from both FEMA and Dominion Energy, saying, "I appreciate FEMA and Dominion responding to my requests and the needs of Aiken County and the Savannah River area."
