South Carolina AG urges regular hearing tests during Better Hearing and Speech Month

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has urged consumers to prioritize their auditory health during Better Hearing and Speech Month this May. As a veteran and long-standing member of the National Guard, Wilson is well aware of the importance of protecting one's hearing.

"I urge everyone to have their hearing tested this month or as soon as possible," he said.

The significance of maintaining good auditory health extends beyond just hearing. Research has demonstrated that for those suffering from hearing loss, using a hearing aid can significantly reduce the risk of three common health problems associated with aging – dementia, depression, and falls. Regular use of hearing aids has been linked to a 24% lower risk for early death.
