U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has joined six of his colleagues in a bipartisan effort to send a letter to President Biden. The senators are urging the president to strongly oppose the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) efforts to politically target Israel following the Jewish Nation’s response to an unprovoked terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7.

The senators expressed their concern in the letter, stating, “It is outrageous that the ICC would make a political calculus to target Israel, which only further undermines the Court’s legitimacy and undercuts efforts to advance peace between Israelis and Palestinians.” They further highlighted that under the American Servicemembers Protection Act of 2002 (P.L. 107-206), the President is granted broad authorities to respond to these types of actions by the ICC. They urged President Biden "to fully implement the law should the Court move forward with action against Israel.”

In addition to Senator Scott, Senators Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) also signed the letter.
