Beaufort History Museum is inaugurating Phase 2A of the Museum’s ongoing growth and improvements. This completed project represents a portion of a larger planned expansion of the Museum’s exhibit hall. Phase 2A provides the infrastructure for new exhibits that will display the geology, geography and historical timeline of Beaufort County and the City of Beaufort and surrounding area, with descriptions including both indigenous and European settlements and milestones.
Located within the historic Beaufort Arsenal (circa 1798), the Beaufort History Museum serves as the interpretive center for the Lowcountry, introducing visitors to the rich history of Beaufort County, the City of Beaufort and the former Beaufort District (which also includes what are now two neighboring additional, independent counties). It is also a learning resource for current residents, both adults and children.
