Attorney General Alan Wilson has advised South Carolinians with 23andMe accounts to consider deleting them. The genetic testing company is in the process of filing for bankruptcy, raising concerns about the security of users' personal data.

"This company has sensitive information about the people who have used it. We don’t know what will happen to the company as part of any potential bankruptcy proceedings, but that personal data could be an asset that gets transferred or sold," Attorney General Wilson stated. "The best way to protect your personal information is to delete your account."

Those wishing to delete their accounts can do so by submitting a request through the 23andMe Customer Care link provided by the company.

Further details on 23andMe's bankruptcy filing can be accessed online.
