Governor Henry McMaster has announced the approval of federal aid for South Carolina, following severe flooding in November 2024. The Major Presidential Disaster Declaration, requested by the governor on December 13, 2024, aims to assist recovery efforts in Bamberg, Calhoun, and Orangeburg Counties.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has sanctioned Public Assistance program aid for these counties. This program reimburses governmental agencies and certain nonprofits affected by the storms and flooding from November 6-14, 2024. The assistance covers costs related to debris removal, emergency measures, public buildings and equipment repairs, public utilities, and more.

Additionally, the declaration approves Hazard Mitigation Grant Program assistance. This provides cost-shared funding for projects that reduce future disaster risks. Eligible entities include state agencies, local governments, and specific nonprofit organizations.

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) will hold briefings to inform potential applicants about available assistance and application procedures. Applicants must file a Request for Public Assistance (RPA) detailing disaster-related damage. FEMA will determine reimbursement eligibility after state review. SCEMD will manage and distribute funds received from FEMA.
