AFL, a company specializing in fiber optic products and equipment, has announced plans to expand its manufacturing operations in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The expansion represents a $155 million investment and is expected to create over 150 new jobs within the next two to five years.
Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Spartanburg County, AFL operates as a subsidiary of Fujikura, Ltd., based in Japan. The company provides comprehensive solutions, products, and services across various markets including energy, service providers, enterprise, industrial sectors, and hyperscale markets. Its products are utilized in more than 130 countries worldwide.
The expansion will focus on increasing production capacity at all of AFL's fiber optic cable manufacturing facilities located in Duncan. This move aims to support domestic cable manufacturing as well as broadband deployment and power grid modernization efforts.
AFL President and CEO Jaxon Lang stated: "For four decades, AFL has been an integral part of the Spartanburg County community. This expansion will increase our manufacturing capabilities, allowing us to better serve our customers around the globe while strengthening the communities in which we work and live."

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has awarded a $200,000 Set-Aside grant to assist with building improvements related to this project.
