Governor Henry McMaster and Lieutenant Governor Pamela S. Evette have announced a series of Team South Carolina County Days aimed at assisting residents affected by Hurricane Helene. The events will take place in Clemson on October 9, Spartanburg on October 10, and Greenville on October 11. These gatherings provide an opportunity for locals to access disaster relief resources.
The events will feature representatives from various state and federal agencies, as well as nonprofit organizations. Agencies participating include the S.C. Department of Agriculture, which is preparing for Farm Recovery Centers; the S.C. Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services, offering counseling and substance use prevention; and the S.C. Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, providing information for individuals with disabilities.
Other departments involved are the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce, supplying unemployment benefits information; the S.C. Department of Environmental Services, assisting private drinking well owners; and the S.C. Department of Health and Human Services, providing healthcare services information.
Insurance claims guidance will be available from the S.C. Department of Insurance, while fire safety advice will come from the S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. Mental health resources will be offered by the S.C. Department of Mental Health.
Attendees can also seek assistance from the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles, learn about WIC resources from the S.C. Department of Public Health, or receive SNAP benefits guidance from the S.C. Department of Social Services.
Additional support includes services for seniors from the S.C. Department on Aging, veterans' services from the S.C. Division of Veterans Affairs, disaster assistance coordination by SCEMD with FEMA's help, housing resources from the S.C. Housing Authority, disaster case management by the Office of Resilience, financial aid registration through FEMA itself, disaster loan applications with help from US Small Business Administration representatives, community volunteer opportunities via United Way Association/AmeriCorps SC and local chapters as well as nonprofit resources during disaster relief provided by One SC Fund.
The event details are as follows:
- Clemson University’s Littlejohn Coliseum will host Pickens, Anderson, and Oconee Counties on October 9.
- USC Upstate’s Health Education Complex in Spartanburg is designated for Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties on October 10.
- Greenville Tech’s Student Success Center will cater to Greenville County residents on October 11.
Lt. Gov Pamela S. Evette along with officials from state agencies and nonprofits will attend these events designed to assist those impacted by recent disasters in accessing necessary recovery tools.
