Attorney General Alan Wilson has joined a coalition of 22 state attorneys general in urging Congressional leaders to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. The initiative, co-led by Iowa and Indiana, aims to fortify the electoral process by ensuring that only eligible U.S. citizens can vote.

“This couldn’t be simpler. The upcoming election needs to be fair and honest, and this act would ensure that only U.S. citizens vote in federal elections,” said Attorney General Wilson.

The coalition's letter criticizes current immigration policies under President Biden, describing them as contributing to a significant border crisis. "President Biden’s terrible immigration policies have created the worst border crisis in American history," it states. The letter also references a congressional report indicating that 5.3 million illegal immigrants have been released into the United States through parole programs under the current administration.

The SAVE Act proposes measures such as requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration and assisting states in identifying and removing illegal immigrants from voter rolls.

The bill has already passed in the United States House of Representatives but is awaiting action from the Senate.
