Gov. Henry McMaster (R-SC) today signed into a law a bill that would create an Educational Scholarship Trust Fund to allow some South Carolina parents “to enroll their children in the school of their choice.”
“I’m proud to sign the Education Scholarships bill into law,” tweeted McMaster. “Providing thousands of parents the option to enroll their children in the school of their choice.”
The law provides some South Carolina families the opportunity to apply for a $6,000 in funding for education-related expenses through the Educational Scholarship Trust Fund program.
“Thanks to this new law, South Carolina kids will have greater educational opportunity and freedom,” tweeted U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) “This is a big win for students and parents.”
On April 26, Corey DeAngelis, senior fellow at the American Federation of Students, tweeted, “BREAKING: South Carolina House just passed a bill to fund students instead of systems. The vote was 79 to 35. It already passed the Senate 28 to 15.”
Following passage of the law, DeAngelis tweeted, “Governor Henry McMaster just signed a bill to fund students instead of systems.”
