The University of South Carolina School of Law now ranks among some of the best in the country.

In the ninth edition of Above the Law’s list for the nation’s 50 best law schools, UofSC made the list for the first time at 45th overall. Among the public institutions, UofSC was the 23rd best law school on the list.

Upon receiving the news of its ranking, UofSC School of Law Dean William Hubbard celebrated the accolade in a UofSC School of Law article, stating, “We are delighted to be recognized as one of the top law schools in the country for its employment outcomes and alumni satisfaction. Our faculty does a fantastic job of preparing our students for meaningful careers in the profession.”

At the top of the rankings was the University of Chicago, followed by the University of Virginia, Duke, Cornell, and University of Michigan-Ann Arbor filling out the top five spots.

The main criteria for ranking the schools included topics surrounding job placement within the field of law, cost and debt of education, and alumni satisfaction, according to Above the Law.

Hubbard also commended the law school's Class of 2020 in the UofSC article, “whose hard work and tireless dedication, especially in the face of the pandemic, have helped make this recognition possible.”
