The NFIB State Director, Ben Homeyer, announced that the organization, which focuses on small business advocacy, is preparing to actively support the passage of Senate Bill 244. He highlighted the importance of this legislation in reducing the abuse of lawsuits in the state.
"Senate Bill 244 is one of NFIB’s top priorities this session," Homeyer stated. He emphasized that the NFIB's support for S.244 signifies small business owners' overwhelming endorsement of the bill. He further asserted that every senator's vote on the bill would be documented and reported to NFIB members and their constituents.
According to Homeyer, S.244 aims to address the issue of frivolous and excessive claims in the legal system. The bill intends to ensure that liability for small business owners and other defendants is limited to their fair share of damages.
"Lawsuit abuse drives up insurance costs, which drives up the cost of doing business in South Carolina," Homeyer noted. He stressed the urgency for the Senate to take swift action and pass this crucial legislation.
This development marks a concerted effort by NFIB to mitigate the financial impact of litigation on small businesses in South Carolina.
