Governor Henry McMaster has announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved South Carolina's request for a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG). This grant will aid in efforts to control the Table Rock Fire in Pickens County and the Persimmon Ridge Fire in Greenville County.

The FMAG approval allows South Carolina to receive a 75% reimbursement from the federal government for costs related to combating these fires. The funds will cover expenses such as personnel, equipment, and firefighting operations, including air tankers, bulldozers, and additional fire crews.

The Table Rock Fire began on Friday, March 21, and has consumed over 1,300 acres. Meanwhile, the Persimmon Ridge Fire started on Sunday, March 23, burning more than 800 acres.

A State Forester's Burning Ban is currently active across all counties. This ban prohibits outdoor burning activities like yard debris burning, prescribed burning, and campfires.

Residents of South Carolina are encouraged to take precautions to prevent wildfires. They should avoid activities that could start fires and adhere to local officials' instructions. For wildfire prevention tips, visit https://www.scfc.gov/protection/fire-prevention/.
