U.S. Senator Tim Scott and Congressman August Pfluger have introduced the Unlocking Domestic LNG Potential Act, a legislative proposal aimed at altering the regulatory framework for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports in the United States. The bill seeks to transfer permitting authority from the U.S. Department of Energy to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Senator Scott commented on the importance of energy production, stating, "Unlocking American energy production not only plays a vital role in safeguarding our national security, but is the path to lowering energy costs for families across the nation." He criticized past reliance on foreign entities and expressed confidence in achieving energy independence under President Trump's administration.

Congressman Pfluger echoed these sentiments, criticizing previous policies under President Biden's administration. "President Biden spent four years pandering to progressive climate extremists and restricted future energy exports instead of unleashing American energy production," he said. Pfluger emphasized that "energy security is national security" and praised Senator Scott's leadership on this issue.

The legislation has garnered support from several other lawmakers, including Senators Kevin Cramer, Pete Ricketts, Ted Budd, Katie Britt, Rick Scott, and Representatives John Joyce, Julia Letlow, Victoria Spartz, Dan Crenshaw, Lauren Boebert, Stephanie Bice, Roger Williams, Troy Balderson, Craig Goldman, Randy Weber, Jodey Arrington, Dan Newhouse, Jake Ellzey, Pete Sessions, and Brian Babin.
