U.S. Senator Tim Scott, a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, recently held a meeting with Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, who has been nominated by former President Trump for the position of Director at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

During their discussion, Senator Scott expressed his support for Dr. Bhattacharya's nomination and highlighted key health issues such as life expectancy and gene therapies for sickle cell disease using CRISPR technology. The conversation also covered efforts to cure cancer and address learning loss due to COVID-19.

Senator Scott emphasized the importance of NIH in supporting research initiatives at South Carolina’s public universities and colleges like MUSC, USC, and Clemson. He stated that "science should be a vehicle to expand freedom, not limit it." He further remarked on American medical innovation's potential to provide solutions to current challenges.

Praising President Trump's team selection, Senator Scott conveyed confidence in Dr. Bhattacharya's leadership at NIH: “With Dr. Bhattacharya leading the NIH, I am confident that our future will only get stronger.”
