U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, representing South Carolina and serving as the Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, announced that the committee has voted to advance the Fiscal Year 2025 budget resolution to the Senate floor. The vote was narrowly decided at 11-10.
The FY 2025 budget resolution serves as a framework for a reconciliation bill aimed at enhancing border security, strengthening military capabilities, and increasing energy independence in the United States.
Graham stated, "Today we took a significant step to passing the most transformative border security bill in American history. The reconciliation bill will also increase defense capability and boost energy independence."
He emphasized that this initiative is designed to support President Trump's administration in securing necessary funding for border security efforts. According to Graham, "To those who want a more secure border, help is on the way. We have started the process that will give President Trump’s team the money they need to secure the border and to deliver on our promises."
Highlighting concerns about funding shortages within Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Graham noted that maintaining momentum is crucial. He also mentioned that $150 billion would be allocated to the Department of Defense during what he described as "one of the most dangerous times in world history," while also indicating forthcoming energy reforms.
These measures are intended to be fully funded through cuts and adjustments in other programs, ensuring no additional financial burden. Graham added, "By sending this resolution to the floor, the Senate Budget Committee has started the process of delivering the resources that President Trump’s team needs to implement his agenda."
Expressing gratitude towards his colleagues on both sides of the aisle, Graham said, "Finally, I appreciate the discipline of my Republican colleagues on the committee for holding firm. I also appreciate the professionalism displayed by my Democratic colleagues on the committee as they passionately presented their point of view."
He concluded by stating that this development marks an important stride toward enhancing America's safety and prosperity.
