U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued a statement on the third anniversary of the fall of Kabul. This event marked the beginning of a two-week series that led to the loss of 13 U.S. servicemembers and resulted in the Taliban's control over Afghanistan.
"The United States’ hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan was a strategic and operational disaster that led to the heartbreaking loss of 13 U.S. servicemembers and erased decades of progress that was hard-won by countless brave Americans, Afghans, and other partners," Scott stated. "Three years ago, the world witnessed President Biden and Vice President Harris’ catastrophic handling of a crisis—a failure that has not only weakened our global standing and tarnished our nation’s credibility but emboldened our adversaries. Their failed leadership must serve as a stark warning and never be repeated."
