South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of William Joseph Godlewski, 36, of Moncks Corner, S.C., on nine charges connected to the sexual exploitation of minors. The arrest was made by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Moncks Corner Police Department, with assistance from the Attorney General's Office.
The arrest came after investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which led them to Godlewski. According to investigators, Godlewski possessed files of child sexual abuse material. Godlewski was arrested on March 21, 2024, and is now facing nine counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, third degree.
In a statement, Attorney General Wilson emphasized the importance of terminology in such cases, stating, "Pornography can imply the child was a consenting participant." He further added, "Globally, the term child pornography is being replaced by CSAM for this reason."
The case is set to be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office, with Wilson reminding the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
