Attorney General Alan Wilson is spearheading a coalition of 26 states urging the United States Senate to swiftly pass the Laken Riley Act. Wilson emphasized the urgency of the situation by stating, “Every state is a border state with Joe Biden as president,” pointing to the pressing issue of illegal immigration and its consequences for American citizens.

The Laken Riley Act, also known as H.R. 7511, mandates the detention of any illegal alien involved in larceny, burglary, theft, or shoplifting offenses. This legislation received bipartisan support in the U.S. House of Representatives with a vote of 251-170.

In a letter signed by the coalition, it was asserted that President Biden's policies have exacerbated the border crisis, leading to unprecedented challenges. The attorneys general highlighted their commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of their states in the face of federal inaction or detrimental policies.

The coalition's letter commended the enforcement provisions of the Laken Riley Act for State Attorneys General, viewing it as a crucial tool in the fight against illegal immigration and the protection of American citizens. The letter urged the Senate to advance the bill to a vote promptly, with Wilson emphasizing, “Laken Riley should still be alive. Let her memory be used to protect others before it’s too late.”
