CLIMATE PROTECTION ACTION COMMITTEE (CPAC)

Seeking to fill three (3) vacancies.

The purpose of the committee is to recommend and oversee the development and implementation of mission-based programs and projects by developing and advocating a vision and strategy for becoming a sustainable community in partnership with key stakeholders and other communities. Term- 3 years

COLUMBIA TREE AND APPEARANCE COMMISSION

Seeking to fill one (1) vacancy for a Developer/Realtor.

The purpose of this committee is to protect, enhance, and promote the City of Columbia’s natural resources and visual beauty. They oversee the development of a master plan for the beautification of the City of Columbia and its implementation. Term- 2 years

COMMERCIAL REVOLVING LOAN FUND (CRLF)

Seeking to fill two (2) vacancies; one (1) small business owner and one (1) attorney.

The purpose of this committee is to review and approve/disapprove applications for loans from the City of Columbia Commercial Revolving Loan Fund. Individuals applying for this board must be a Small business owner or an Attorney. – Term- 2 years

DESIGN/ DEVELOPMENT REVIEW COMMISSION (D/DRC)

Seeking to fill to fill two (2) vacancies; one (1) commissioner and one (1) Architect.

The purpose of this commission is to advise the city council upon the designation of landmarks, landmark districts, architectural conservation districts, and protection areas; carry out those regulatory duties relating to subsection (b)(1) of this section as set forth in this section; plan and direct continuing studies of areas, physical features and improvements in the city relating to urban design, historic preservation, beautification, civic improvement and other considerations in furtherance of this article, and in doing so, properly coordinate such plans and studies with the various departments and agencies of the city; engage in educational activities related to the furtherance of this article in order to promote appropriate urban design, historic preservation and conservation of historic or aesthetic features of the city; advise, assist and represent the best interest of the city in matters relating to coordination of and assistance to other public bodies and private interests in activities related to this article; advise and assist the city council in acquisition of any gift, grant, purchase, bequest, device, lease, fee simple or lesser interest, development right, easement (including scenic easement), covenant or other contractual right which may accrue to the furtherance of the purposes of this article; advise the city council in actions of eminent domain taken in furtherance of the purposes of this article; upon request of the city council, manage, control and maintain any property related to the purpose of this article or to the purposes of the commission.- Term 3 years

FOOD POLICY COMMITTEE (FPC)

Seeking to fill three (3) vacancies.

The purpose of this committee is to gather and address problems found within food production, consumption, processing, distribution, and waste disposal with the primary focus on finding solutions to problems that promote sustainability, economic development, and social justice in the food system of the Columbia and surrounding areas by educating government officials about issues of the food system, making policy recommendations, research, fostering of cooperation among private, public, and non-profit interests. Term- 2 years

PLANNING COMMISSION

Seeking to fill two (2) vacancies.

The purpose of this commission is to develop and maintain a continuing planning program which will benefit City of Columbia residents; to provide a mutual forum to identify, discuss, study and address local development issues and opportunities; to foster, develop and review policies, plans and priorities in order to ensure orderly growth, development, conservation and preservation; to furnish technical assistance to city government and its agents; and to review and coordinate federal, state and local programs that have an impact on the city.
