A MESSAGE ABOUT END-OF-YEAR GIVING FROM CONSTANCE B. SCHULZ

“Dear SC Philharmonic Supporter,

I have been a resident of Columbia for 36 years. During this time, my husband and I sent our youngest children from Dreher High School off to college, I taught as a Professor of History and Director of the Public History Program at the University of South Carolina, and performed as a violinist for 27 years with the S.C. Phil.

Although I retired from performing with the Philharmonic in 2012, my dedication to the orchestra continues, and you will occasionally see me performing still with the orchestra as a substitute.

I am proud to have seen (and see!) the S.C. Phil grow artistically and expand its education programs to reach a diverse group of people, all while remaining committed to serving our community.

I am also thrilled to see our orchestra thriving after almost two years of uncertainty, due to the pandemic. While many orchestras across the country halted their performances, the SC Phil was determined to keep the music alive and their musicians employed. From virtual concerts featuring the entire orchestra to small recitals streamed to hospitals, the SC Phil used this time to “think outside the box” and find a way to still serve our community.

In October, I approached my friends at the SC Phil with an idea. In honor of the SC Philharmonic’s 58th season, I will match every new or additional contribution of $58 or more, made by December 31st – up to $5,000. As a longtime member of the second violin section, I must also mention that you can sponsor a member of that section too, with a gift of $500 - and I’ll match your donation!

Please consider joining me and make a gift to support our orchestra. Contributions may also be made through your IRA. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact my friend, Robin Hallyburton, the SC Phil’s Development Director at 803.771.7937 or robin@scphilharmonic.com.

Sincerely,

Constance B. Schulz

Distinguished Professor Emerita Department of History, UofSC

S.C. Philharmonic Violin Emeritus”
