Plastic Omnium plans to further expand its operations in Anderson County with a $17.7 million investment and the creation of 76 new jobs.
The expansion is set to be completed by February of 2022, and will include an upgrade to existing injection molding machines and paint lines in addition to new equipment planned for the facility, a press release from the company said.
“With over a 25-year presence in Anderson S.C., Plastic Omnium is happy to announce further investments and jobs. It underlines the attractivity of the automotive business in South Carolina, the growth of Plastic Omnium and its long-term commitment in this region – strengthening the group’s relationship with its customers,” Plastic Omnium President and CEO of the Americas Patrick Le Garrec said in the press release.
The Anderson location, at 5100 Pearman Dairy Rd., will also expand into producing bumpers and tailgates for General Motors’ new Lyric electric vehicles.
Plastic Omnium's decision in expanding the Anderson facility is due to the "recent surge by South Carolina’s automotive industry to increase electric vehicle production" Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III said in the release.
Platsic Omnimn is a worldwide leading automotive equipment provider found in 1947 with headquarters in France and operating in 25 countries with 131 factories, 31,000 employees and 25 research and development centers.
