Georgetown County issued the following announcement on September 10.
After serving the residents and visitors of Georgetown County for more than 32 years, Georgetown County Fire-EMS Chief Mack Reed announced his retirement on Sept. 10. His last day on the job will be Oct. 1.
Reed began his career with the County as the Fire Chief for the Georgetown County Fire Department in January 1989. In 2005, his department consolidated with Georgetown County EMS to form Georgetown County Fire-EMS and offer fire suppression and emergency medical services to portions of Georgetown County, excluding the Waccamaw Neck. Reed's legacy will forever be ingrained in the history of the fire service in Georgetown County. Look for more on Chief Reed and his experiences in the fire service in our October newsletter.
