City of Myrtle Beach issued the following announcement on August 25.
The Myrtle Beach area has been recognized by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control with a Community Star Award for the Check My Beach program (www.checkmybeach.com). In this case, DHEC’s Community Star Award recognizes a collaborative partnership that went above and beyond environmental requirements in order to build better com-munity relationships, promote environmental sustainability and resiliency, and/or improve quality of life for communities. Check My Beach was launched in August 2019 to help provide beachgoers with real-time data on water quality and beach safety tips through the website CheckMyBeach.com. Signs at public beach access points, brochures and additional online promotions work to direct beachgoers to the online information. Recipients of the award include the cities of Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, the Town of Surfside Beach, Horry County, Coastal Carolina University, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce.
