James Island Presbyterian Church issued the following announcement on August 5.
Dear Church family and friends,
Grace and peace unto you as we enter the weekend. I trust you and yours are safe and well as we enter a new place in our ongoing battle with COVID and the Delta variant.
I wanted to thank you for your conscientious responses to last week’s CDC updates for the best path forward to ensuring as much safety and protection from the virus as is possible. As you know, we follow the CDC guidelines as we plan for worship. Though we do our best to protect everyone, there is no guarantee that no one will contract the virus. This is why getting the vaccine and wearing masks is so important when we gather.
As a reminder, I’m hearing there is some confusion about our current policy and practice. Wearing masks in worship is a recommendation not a requirement. I trust you will prayerfully make your choice to do so with the personal safety, the safety of your family, and the health and wellbeing of our community of faith in heart and mind.
Thanks to each of you for your participation in wearing a mask. Although it is an inconvenience, I do believe it is part and parcel of the safest path forward.
In the days ahead, count on my prayers and the prayers of your entire staff family. We will also count on yours.
Stay safe and well and I will see you worship this Sunday!
Grace and peace,
Pastor Sam
