The University of Notre Dame decided July 15 to move forward with plans to bring a Chick-fil-A restaurant to the South Bend, Indiana, college campus, despite objections from some students and faculty members.

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham stood up for the fast food restaurant chain.

"I want everyone in South Carolina and across America to know I have Chick-fil-A's back," Graham, a Republican, wrote in a July 14 tweet. "I hope we don't have to, but I will go to war for the principles Chick-fil-A stands for. Great food. Great service. Great values. God bless Chick-fil-A."

Indiana TV news station WNDU reported almost 200 Notre Dame students and faculty members were against adding a Chick-fil-A to dining options on campus, and wrote a letter to the school's Campus Dining Division to let them know where they stood.

South Carolina's WMBF News reported Notre Dame opted to still proceed with bringing the restaurant to campus since students "overwhelmingly expressed a desire" to have one there. The restaurant is expected to be open early next year.

Graham said with Notre Dame's decision to continue on with their commitment to have a Chick-fil-A on campus, the patrons there have won a battle in the cancel culture war, according to an article from The Hill, which reported that the students' and faculty's opposition to the Atlanta-based fast food chain stems from past donations it made to anti-LGBTQ groups.
