U.S. Rep. Tom Rice (R-S.C.) is facing backlash from the South Carolina Republican Party after voting to impeach former President Donald Trump.
South Carolina GOP Chairman Drew McKissick called Trump’s impeachment a political stunt. He was not happy about Rice’s decision to support the impeachment.
"Democrats have been looking for any excuse to get rid of President Trump ever since he set foot in the Oval Office," McKissick said in a statement, NPR reported. "We completely disagree with this sham and to say I'm severely disappointed in Congressman Tom Rice would be an understatement."
Rice was one of ten Republican members of Congress who voted to impeach Trump.
The others were Reps. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), Anthony Gonzalez (R-Ohio), Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.), John Katko (R-N.Y.), Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), Peter Meijer (R-Mich.), Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and David Valadao (R-Calif.)
The impeachment vote was made in the wake of the Capitol being overrun by protesters.
