Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the sentencing of Hunter Thomas Wallace, who pleaded guilty to charges in York County. On July 9, Wallace admitted to one count of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor and two counts of Failure to Stop for Blue Lights with Great Bodily Injury before Judge Perry H. Gravely.
In May 2023, the York County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and other South Carolina law enforcement agencies on an undercover operation targeting online solicitation of minors. Wallace contacted an officer posing as a 14-year-old girl, soliciting sexual activity and sending nude images. He later traveled to meet the persona but fled when approached by police. In his attempt to escape, he ran a red light and collided with another vehicle, causing life-threatening injuries to its occupants.
Judge Gravely sentenced Wallace to seven years for soliciting a minor, crediting him for 776 days already served. Additionally, he received a consecutive sentence of ten years suspended to three years probation for failing to stop for blue lights with injury. Upon release, Wallace must register as a sex offender and will have his driver’s license suspended for three years.
Assistant Attorney General Anna Sharpe prosecuted the case on behalf of the state.
