The Big South Conference announced on April 30 that the Charleston Southern Buccaneers’ women’s 4×400 meter relay team and Maeva Tahou have been named Women’s Track Athletes of the Week for their performances during competitions held from April 23 to April 26. Tahou was also selected as Field Athlete of the Week.
This recognition highlights notable achievements by both the relay group and Tahou at the Charlotte Invitational. The relay team, consisting of Maya Clark, Grenisha Thomas, Maeva Tahou, and Caroline Aslerin, set a new school record in the event with a winning time of 3:34.38. This result marks the second-fastest time in Big South history for the women’s 4×400 meter relay and is just under three-tenths of a second off the all-time conference record.
Tahou delivered additional standout performances at the same meet. She won the women’s 100 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.24 seconds, which also established another school record and ranks as third-fastest in conference history for that event. In addition to her track success, she claimed victory in the long jump with a leap measuring 6.20 meters—a new school record that makes her the first Buccaneer to surpass six meters in this discipline and places her fourth all-time among league competitors.
Charleston Southern’s track and field athletes will now take two weekends off before preparing for their next major competition. The upcoming Big South Championships are scheduled to be held at High Point University from Monday, May 11 through Wednesday, May 13.
These recent accomplishments position Charleston Southern’s women’s track athletes as strong contenders heading into championship season.
