The Wofford College women’s tennis team defeated Samford 4-0 at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Apr. 16 to advance to the semifinals of the 2026 Southern Conference Championship.

This victory is significant as it marks the third time in four seasons that Wofford has reached the tournament semifinals, highlighting continued progress for the program.

Doubles play began with a rain delay of nearly two hours shortly after starting. Once play resumed, Wofford gained an early advantage across all three doubles matches. Grace Agster and Quinn Bernthal secured a win at the top position with a score of 6-2, while Chloe Elliott and Ella Suk clinched another point at #2 doubles with a 6-3 victory. The third doubles match was left unfinished with Katie Godfree and Marie Henriksen leading.

In singles competition, Wofford took control by winning first sets in all six matches. Bernthal won her match at #2 singles after her opponent retired following a first-set loss. Agster added another point with a straight-set win at #1 singles (6-2, 6-0), and Henriksen clinched overall victory for Wofford by winning her match at #6 singles (6-3, 6-1). Remaining singles matches were not completed as Wofford had already secured enough points for the team win.

Head coach Krissy Hall said, “I am really proud of the way we came out today and set the tone from the start of the match. I thought we executed our strategies really well in both singles and doubles. We had great energy throughout. This was a total team win!”

Wofford improves to an overall record of 11-7 this season as they prepare to face top-seeded Furman in Friday’s semifinal round.
