The Wofford softball team won both games of a doubleheader against Western Carolina on May 1 at Hope Field. The Terriers secured a 5-4 victory in 12 innings in the first game and followed with a 6-4 win in the second game, improving their season record to 32-17 and moving to 9-11 in conference play.

The games were held as part of senior night, honoring four seniors: Kaytlin Greenwood, Margaret Axelson, Gracie Parker, and Kate Platte. Head coach Chelsea Butler said, “I am so happy for our seniors. Watching the team show up for them was really cool. We know that in the SoCon you cannot take anyone lightly. We have to take all our momentum and energy into tomorrow and keep fighting for our seniors.”

In game one, Abby Greenwood started on the mound for Wofford, pitching over five innings and striking out six batters while allowing three runs. Natalya Salo earned her tenth win of the season by pitching nearly seven innings without giving up an earned run. Brianna Stanley led offensively with two hits and two runs batted in (RBI), while Addison Lucier added three hits with an RBI. The Terriers matched Western Carolina closely throughout extra innings before securing victory with a sacrifice fly from Lucier.

Game two saw Margaret Axelson pitch five innings for her eighth win this year, allowing only two earned runs before Sydney Baker closed out the final two innings for her second save of the season. Offensively, Kaytlin Greenwood contributed significantly by going two-for-three at bat with a home run, scoring twice and stealing two bases.

The Terriers took control early in both games but faced challenges from Western Carolina late in each contest. Both teams played competitively through several scoreless frames before Wofford’s offense made key plays to maintain their lead.

Looking ahead, Wofford will aim to complete a sweep of Western Carolina as they conclude their regular season with another matchup scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
