Winthrop track and field to compete at Duke Twilight to close regular season

The Winthrop track and field teams will finish their regular season on May 3 at the Duke Twilight meet, hosted by Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. This event is the team’s second visit to Durham this season, following their participation in the Duke Invitational held from April 8-11.

The upcoming meet serves as a final preparation for the Eagles before they compete in the Big South Outdoor Championships scheduled for May 11-13. Head coach Raffael Craig leads Winthrop’s program in his first year, with the men’s team returning 25 athletes and adding ten newcomers, while the women’s squad returns 16 members and welcomes thirteen new athletes.

Recent performances include Mitchell Hill placing seventh in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:51.86, which ranks fifth all-time at Winthrop. Jason Krell moved into ninth place on Winthrop’s record list for the men’s 5000 meters with a time of 15:24.74. Justin Powell finished tenth in the men’s 400-meter hurdles at 55.03 seconds, while Kendale Cooke, Jurnii Lucas, Kevin Brown, and Tristen Patterson combined for fourth place in the men’s 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:11.00.

On the women’s side, Brianna Dooney achieved third place all-time at Winthrop in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase after running an official time of 11:13.23. Anna Conrad posted Winthrop’s second fastest women’s outdoor mark ever over1500 meters (4:36), finishing eighth overall at her most recent competition; Jade Reese moved up to fourth all-time for Winthrop women over200 meters by clocking a personal best of24.14 seconds.

Craig guides both squads as they look ahead to postseason competition after building momentum throughout his first campaign as head coach.
