Winthrop softball was announced as the number one seed for the 2026 Big South Conference Tournament after securing the regular season title, according to a May 2 statement from the league office.

The tournament will take place at Cyrill Softball Stadium on the campus of USC Upstate from May 6 to May 9. Tickets are available for advance purchase, and all games will be broadcast on ESPN+. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Regionals.

Competition begins Wednesday, May 6, with Presbyterian (No. 4) facing Gardner-Webb (No. 5) at 5:00 p.m. The schedule continues with three games each on Thursday and Friday, culminating in up to two championship contests on Saturday starting at noon. Winthrop’s first game is scheduled for Thursday, May 7 at 2:30 p.m., where they will play against either Presbyterian or Gardner-Webb depending on the outcome of Game 1.

This marks only the fifth time in program history that Winthrop has been named top seed in the conference tournament and is their first such honor since 2008. The full schedule details times and matchups throughout each day of competition, noting that changes may occur due to weather conditions.
