Winthrop University’s men’s golf team advanced to fifth place in the standings after the second round of the 2026 Big South Championship on Apr. 27, led by strong performances from freshman Dylan Park and junior Ashton Eubanks.
The team’s improvement puts them within one stroke of the top four teams, a crucial position as only those teams advance to match play in the championship. The Eagles finished two shots better than their first-round score, despite a day when overall stroke averages increased across the field.
Park overcame an early double-bogey and made five consecutive birdies, finishing with a 3-under-par 68 to tie for sixth place individually. Eubanks also tied for sixth after carding a 2-under-par round. Junior Waymon Thomas recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3 twelfth hole and finished with a three-over-par 74, while sophomore Thomas Lamar and freshman Mason Kucia completed rounds at four-over and seven-over par respectively.
The Eagles lead all teams in par-3 scoring at one over par and are second in total birdies with twenty-nine. Eubanks is tied for best par-3 scoring among individuals at two under par, while Lamar is tied for second lowest at one under. Thomas leads Winthrop in par-4 scoring, while Park leads in par-5 scoring at four under—tied for third best among all players.
Looking ahead, Winthrop will be paired with Gardner-Webb for Tuesday’s final round of stroke play, teeing off from the tenth hole beginning at 9:15 a.m.
