USC Upstate finished as the runner-up at the Big South Men’s Golf Championship after a close final match, according to an April 29 announcement. The team advanced to match play for the second consecutive season by placing second in stroke play.

The significance of this result highlights USC Upstate’s continued strong performance in conference competition and its ability to compete at a high level across multiple seasons.

In the semifinal against Winthrop, USC Upstate secured a 3-2 victory. Nate Heller contributed with a 3&1 win after making an eagle on hole four, which evened the score at one apiece. Jackson Stone followed with a 4&2 win using seven pars and one eagle, giving the Spartans a lead. After Winthrop tied it again, Jaskaran Sohal clinched advancement to the finals by winning his match 1UP over all eighteen holes.

During the championship round against Presbyterian, Phuthanate Kangwol earned an early point for USC Upstate with a decisive 6&5 win. Sohal won his second match of the day at 2UP, leveling the overall contest at two points each. Alec Prentice forced extra holes by sinking a birdie putt on hole eighteen to tie his match, but Presbyterian prevailed in the second playoff hole.

The team’s finish underscores their competitive consistency within conference play and suggests potential for future success as they continue building experience in high-pressure situations.
