USC Upstate announced on April 30 that its baseball team will return home to Cleveland S. Harley Park for a three-game series against Gardner-Webb, marking the team’s penultimate Big South Conference series of the season. The games are scheduled for May 1-3, with start times set for 6:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

The matchup is significant as both teams enter the weekend with identical conference records of eight wins and ten losses. USC Upstate holds a historical advantage in the series, leading Gardner-Webb by a margin of 24-18 and having won the last twelve meetings between the two teams since 2022.

Key players expected to make an impact include USC Upstate senior first baseman Wylie Waters, who recently hit his eighth home run of the season and leads his team in slugging percentage while ranking third in batting average. For Gardner-Webb, redshirt senior outfielder Kelvin Agosto currently leads the Big South Conference in batting average and hits this season.

The probable starting pitchers for USC Upstate are Chris Torres, Max Kaplan, and Brent Stukes across the three games. Gardner-Webb’s starters include Oliver Ellison and Reid Bertram, with one pitcher yet to be determined.

Following this weekend’s series, USC Upstate will continue its homestand by hosting Elon at Fluor Field in Greenville on Tuesday evening. In addition to game updates, fans are encouraged to support student-athletes at Sparty’s Ball on May 15 at The Piedmont Club.
