South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced on Apr. 6 the arrest of Peter Budimer Sreckovich, 54, and David Wayne Crouse, 41, both of Sumter, on six charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The arrests were made by Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigators from the Attorney General’s Office in two unrelated cases.
This announcement highlights ongoing efforts to address crimes against children and support community safety. The South Carolina Attorney General supports victims through advocacy and resources, contributing to protection across the state according to the official website.
The investigation began after CyberTipline reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led authorities to Sreckovich and Crouse. Investigators say both individuals distributed files containing child sexual abuse material. Both suspects were arrested on March 31, each charged with three counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor—a felony offense that carries up to ten years imprisonment per count.
The South Carolina Attorney General operates as the state’s primary legal advocate and enforcer, handling prosecutions like these alongside regulatory matters such as securities and consumer protection according to its official website. The office also collaborates with law enforcement agencies including local police departments and Homeland Security Investigations during criminal prosecutions across South Carolina.
Wilson said all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. He added that child sexual abuse material is a more accurate term than ‘child pornography,’ explaining: “‘Pornography’ can imply the child was a consenting participant. Globally, the term child pornography is being replaced by CSAM for this reason.” Alan Wilson has served as head of the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office which extends its operations statewide according to information available online.
