South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has expressed support for President Donald Trump’s recent Executive Order concerning the housing of federal inmates and the funding of transgender procedures. The order mandates that federal prisons house inmates based on their biological sex and ceases taxpayer-funded transgender procedures, such as hormone therapies and surgeries.

Wilson stated, “Prisons are for accountability and consequences, not to serve as playgrounds for leftist social experiments.” He emphasized that the order represents a stand for law and order, women’s safety, and a rejection of policies he views as undermining the justice system. According to Wilson, this move aligns with public sentiment against rewriting biology or granting special treatment to those who have committed crimes.

The Executive Order specifically stops taxpayer money from being used for elective transgender medical treatments within federal correctional facilities. It also stipulates that male inmates must be housed in male-only facilities. This measure is intended to address concerns about assaults and privacy violations in women’s prisons.

Earlier in May, Wilson joined 24 other state attorneys general in supporting the administration’s stance through a friend-of-the-court brief. This document argued against placing men in women’s housing and opposed unproven taxpayer-funded gender-transition treatments behind bars.

Wilson reiterated South Carolina’s dedication to collaborating with national leaders to oppose policies perceived as compromising safety and public trust. He concluded by stating, “Enough is enough,” indicating his firm stance against what he described as leftist ideology affecting basic biology, women’s safety, and fiscal responsibility.
