The Nuclear Company announced the establishment of its engineering and construction office in Columbia, Richland County. This initiative is expected to create over 100 jobs as the company evaluates sites for deploying its fleet of nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 6 gigawatts.
The company aims to address the growing energy demand in the United States by redefining nuclear construction through a fleet-scale deployment strategy. This approach involves a design-once, build-many methodology intended to reduce costs and minimize delays. The process incorporates advanced construction and manufacturing methods along with digital technologies like AI-driven site selection and real-time construction updates.
The office opening comes after the completion of the company’s Series A funding round, led by Eclipse, with participation from other investors including CIV, True Ventures, Wonder Ventures, Goldcrest Capital, and MCJ Collective.
Jonathan Webb, Co-founder & CEO of The Nuclear Company, emphasized the importance of maintaining America’s leadership in nuclear technology. He noted, “America’s longstanding leadership in nuclear power is threatening to slip away…The Nuclear Company is coming to South Carolina to show how we can meet these challenges and continue to grow both employment and the American economy at large.”
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster welcomed the investment, stating, “Reliable, affordable energy is essential for our future prosperity, and this investment marks another step toward securing a bright future for our state.”
Greg Reichow, Partner at Eclipse and former Tesla executive, highlighted the critical role of nuclear power in U.S. reindustrialization. He commented, “The Nuclear Company is taking a disciplined, scalable approach to nuclear construction…Eclipse is thrilled to support this team as they execute on their ambitious mission.” Reichow will also join The Nuclear Company’s board.
