A Taylors, South Carolina man has been arrested on charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The arrest of Mykell Demond Wright, 30, was announced by South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, as part of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, carried out the arrest with assistance from investigators in the Attorney General’s Office.
The investigation began after a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led authorities to Wright. According to investigators, Wright is accused of distributing files containing child sexual abuse material.
Wright was taken into custody on February 23, 2026. He faces three counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor under South Carolina law (§16-15-405), each count carrying a potential penalty of up to ten years in prison.
The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office. “Attorney General Wilson stressed that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The term “child sexual abuse material” (CSAM) is used to describe these offenses because it more accurately reflects the nature of such crimes. The use of “pornography” can wrongly suggest consent by minors; globally, CSAM is replacing older terminology for this reason.
The South Carolina Attorney General serves as the state’s main legal advocate and enforcer, handling prosecutions and regulatory matters across various domains including securities and consumer protection. The office also supports victims through advocacy and resources while working with law enforcement agencies throughout the state on criminal cases (official website). Alan Wilson currently leads these efforts as head of the office.
