South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of two Sumter residents, Calvin H. Carraway, Jr., 57, and Aaron Matthew Rivera, 21, on charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrests stem from separate investigations conducted by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Attorney General’s Office. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Sumter Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations also assisted as members of the state’s ICAC Task Force.
The investigations began after CyberTipline reports were received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Authorities allege that Carraway distributed and possessed files containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM), while Rivera is accused of distributing such material.
Carraway was taken into custody on October 22, 2025. He faces one count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor under §16-15-405—a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison—and nine counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor under §16-15-410, each also carrying a potential ten-year sentence.
Rivera was also arrested on October 22, 2025. He has been charged with two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor under §16-15-405. Each count carries a possible sentence of up to ten years imprisonment.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute both cases.
Attorney General Wilson stated: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The term “child sexual abuse material” or CSAM is used instead of “child pornography” because it more accurately reflects the abusive nature of these crimes and avoids implying consent by minors.
