South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the arrest of Michael Castre Button, 18, from Summerville, South Carolina. Button faces four charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The arrest was made by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Goose Creek Police Department. The investigation also involved personnel from the Attorney General’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, both members of the state’s ICAC Task Force.
Authorities initiated their investigation after receiving a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). According to investigators, Button distributed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Button was taken into custody on September 5, 2025. He is charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the second degree (ยง16-15-405), which is classified as a felony. Each count carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute this case.
Attorney General Wilson stated, “all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
The term “child sexual abuse material” (CSAM) is used to more accurately describe content involved in these cases, as it reflects the abusive nature of such crimes. The term “pornography” may suggest consent by the child, which is not accurate; therefore, CSAM is being adopted globally as a replacement.
