A Summerville resident, Corben Paul Campbell, 23, has been arrested on five charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. The arrest was made by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office as part of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Investigators from the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, who are also members of the state’s ICAC Task Force, assisted in the investigation.
Authorities began their investigation after receiving a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). According to investigators, Campbell distributed and possessed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Campbell was taken into custody on August 15, 2025. He faces one count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor under South Carolina law (§16-15-405), which is a felony that can result in up to 10 years in prison. He also faces four counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor (§16-15-410), each carrying a possible sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment.
The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute this case.
Attorney General Alan Wilson stated: “All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.”
According to experts, using the term “child sexual abuse material” (CSAM) provides an accurate description for such crimes. The word “pornography” may wrongly imply consent from minors involved; therefore, CSAM is increasingly used worldwide to reflect the nature of these offenses.
