South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the release of updated posters mandated by the South Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force. These posters are intended for use in various locations across the state, marking the 10th anniversary of related state legislation.
The mandate, as set by South Carolina law (Code 16-3-2100), requires the display of the national human trafficking hotline poster in public restrooms and at visible entrances of specific businesses. Non-compliance can result in a fine up to fifty dollars per day. The continuation of violations incurs daily penalties.
The new poster designs were created with input from the State Task Force Survivor Advisory Subcommittee. Both posters are available for download on the State Task Force website at humantrafficking.scag.gov. Additionally, 11 Regional Human Trafficking Task Forces in the state will receive 1,000 copies for distribution.
The National Human Trafficking Hotline, available at 888-373-7888, offers confidential support and operates 24/7 for incident reporting and victim services.
Attorney General Wilson, who also serves as the Chair of the South Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force, emphasized the importance of this initiative in enhancing awareness and support services.
