South Carolina's export sales reached $38 billion in 2024, marking the highest volume since 2019. This was announced by Governor Henry McMaster, the South Carolina Department of Commerce (S.C. Commerce), and South Carolina Ports (SC Ports). The U.S. Department of Commerce reported this achievement.

The automotive industry played a leading role in the state's exports, with sales surpassing those of aircraft and aerospace components. South Carolina maintained its position as the top U.S. exporter of completed passenger vehicles and tires, and ranked second for ball/roller bearings.

The top five exported commodities from South Carolina in 2024 were completed passenger vehicles, aircraft and parts, machinery and parts including turbojets and turbines, plastics, and rubber products like tires.

Export sales saw a 2% increase year-over-year, aligning with overall U.S. export growth. In particular, South Carolina led the nation in exporting completed passenger vehicles with $10.9 billion in sales, representing 18.4% of the U.S market share. The state also led tire exports for the tenth consecutive year with $1.8 billion in sales or 36.5% of the national market share.

In total, South Carolina exported to 197 countries and territories last year. Germany emerged as the largest market for these exports at nearly $5 billion—a 6% increase from previous years—followed by Canada and Mexico. Aircraft exports to South Korea and the United Kingdom increased significantly as well.

Governor Henry McMaster remarked on this achievement: "South Carolina's business community and workforce continue to produce top-quality products, and the world has taken notice." He emphasized that being a leader in vehicle and tire exports enhances South Carolina's business reputation.

Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III noted: "Our state remains committed to expanding our global reach...and we are pleased to see these efforts paying off for businesses that call South Carolina home."

Barbara Melvin, SC Ports President and CEO added: “South Carolina’s advanced manufacturers...depend on SC Ports to efficiently move their goods to global markets.” She highlighted SC Ports' role in supporting local businesses' operations.
