U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham has issued a statement following the sentencing of former President Donald Trump in Manhattan. Graham criticized the New York justice system, claiming it is biased against Trump.
"The New York justice system is beyond anti-Trump," said Graham. He accused the New York Attorney General and Manhattan District Attorney of targeting Trump as a "political prize."
Graham alleged that Trump was prosecuted for offenses that were either unprecedented or constructed to achieve a conviction. He argued that the trial took place in liberal jurisdictions with liberal prosecutors and judges.
"The judge in this case rushed this sentencing so that he can tell the world, 'I made Trump a felon,'" Graham stated, expressing confidence that the decision would be overturned by the Supreme Court.
He described the prosecutor's statements as an attempt to legitimize what he called a "sham proceeding." Graham warned of broader implications, suggesting that state and local prosecutors' actions could threaten not only the presidency but also America's representative system.
"I have no respect for the process being used in New York," Graham concluded, criticizing what he perceived as politically motivated actions by both judge and prosecutor. "This is a sad day for America."
