U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina has been elected as the Senate Budget Committee Chairman by the Republican conference for the 119th Congress. Following his election, Graham released a statement outlining his priorities for the committee.
Graham expressed his gratitude for being chosen to lead the committee and emphasized his commitment to advancing significant legislation on border security and military enhancement. "I am honored to have been elected Senate Budget Committee Chairman by the Republican conference," he stated.
He outlined plans to utilize the reconciliation process to pass what he described as "the most transformational border security bill in American history" and pledged to strengthen military capabilities. According to Graham, "We're going to give President Trump and his team the resources they need to finish the wall, put technology on the border to obtain operational control, hire more ICE agents to deport gang members and criminals, and create more detention space so we don’t have to release illegal immigrants into the country."
Additionally, Graham aims to expand naval forces: "We will make the Navy bigger and more lethal." He assured that these initiatives would be pursued promptly, stating, "We are going to do all of this in weeks, not months."
