U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham has expressed his thoughts following the announcement by Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, that he will step down from his position.

Graham stated, “Throughout my time in Congress, I have tried to be a good friend and ally to Israel because I believe our fates are intertwined. I make frequent trips to Israel to understand the situation on the ground, their needs, and what the United States can do to promote a strong and secure Israel.” He praised Herzog as “one of the most effective voices for the state of Israel I’ve ever known,” noting that Herzog had garnered trust and support across political lines.

Graham highlighted Herzog's military background, saying, “As a retired military officer, he understands duty, honor and sacrifice.” He acknowledged Herzog's efforts in advancing normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel as part of the Abraham Accords.

Reflecting on Herzog's contributions alongside his wife Shirin, Graham remarked on their work in strengthening U.S.-Israel relations over the past three years. “Ambassador Herzog and his wife, Shirin, have a deep understanding and appreciation for the United States,” Graham said. He also noted their personal friendship with him.

In closing, Graham expressed confidence that both Michael and Shirin Herzog would continue to foster ties between the two nations despite stepping down from their official roles.
